Despite these ongoing developments, Russian forces continue to shell communities along the Sumy region's border, with 112 communities experiencing one or more attacks between December 2024 and January 2025. The Russian military has used various munitions, including grenades, artillery, mortars, and drone attacks.

Regardless of these conflicts and political tensions, Ukraine's air defense forces have displayed their effectiveness, intercepting over 100 of 112 incoming Shahed drones within a week, saving numerous lives and infrastructure.
