Facing a lengthy injury list at FSV Mainz 05, interim coach Jan Siewert insists on turning adversity into opportunity. "We've got to make the best out of this predicament," he stated ahead of the upcoming Bundesliga clash against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (17:30/DAZN). The injury bug has affected multiple players, including defenders Sepp van den Berg, Andreas Hanche-Olsen, and Maxim Leitsch. There's also some uncertainty surrounding regular goalkeeper Robin Zentner's availability due to muscular problems. Despite the challenging situation, Siewert remains optimistic. "I'm not one to panic. Our job is to find solutions," he emphasized.

Right on the heels of his predecessor Bo Svensson's departure, Siewert will sit in the dugout with the first team for the third time. His leadership has so far resulted in Mainz securing their first win of the season against RB Leipzig (2-0) and a goalless draw at Darmstadt 98. Refusing to discuss his future plans, Siewert instead keeps his focus on the match against Hoffenheim.

Bringing some joyous news to the Mainz faithful is the return of striker Jonathan Burkhardt. After being sidelined for over a year due to an injury, he's now back in the mix. Siewert spoke about the possibility of Burkhardt's inclusion in the squad, stating, "Jonny is an option. We'll assess whether his condition is good enough for a few minutes of action." Meanwhile, captain Silvan Widmer could also make a comeback, having recovered from an extended break.

Despite the setbacks, Siewert's resilient Mainz side aims to remain positive, embarking on their Bundesliga journey with renewed vigor. For all the uncertainties, the FSV Mainz 05 team stands united, drawing strength from their shared goals, driven by the determination to rise above challenges and secure victories.
